The Nervous System Dysregulation Hypnotherapy & more...
A Private Retreat Experience in Joshua Tree
Stillness & Sensory — nervous system dysregulation & hypnotherapy.
Sometimes the body seems to forget how to be still.
You may be exhausted, yet unable to truly rest. Your thoughts continue long after you want them to stop. Sounds, responsibilities, relationships and everyday demands can begin to feel overwhelming. Even when life appears calm on the outside, something inside remains alert.
This experience is often described as nervous system dysregulation.
For some, it follows a prolonged period of stress. For others, grief, loss, trauma, major life changes or simply years of carrying too much can leave them longing for somewhere they can finally become quiet.
This longing was part of the inspiration behind Stillness & Sensory, our private retreat experience in the extraordinary desert landscape of Joshua Tree, California.

What Happens When We Remove the Noise?
Modern life continually asks something of us. Heck it takes a minimum of 3 days to get the world outta your system!
Phones. Deadlines. Traffic. News. Responsibilities. Expectations.
Stillness & Sensory begins with a very different question:
What happens when, for a few days, very little is being asked of you?
Our intention is to create an environment in which guests can step away from their normal routines and experience simplicity again—quiet surroundings, nourishing food, meditation, rest, nature, meaningful conversation and carefully selected contemplative practices.
The desert itself becomes part of that experience.
There is something extraordinary about sitting among the ancient rocks and vast skies of Joshua Tree as the sun disappears and the desert becomes completely still.
Sometimes doing less creates space to notice more.

A Multisensory Approach to Stillness
Rather than relying upon one modality, Stillness & Sensory brings together several complementary practices for the nervous system dysregulation hypnotherapy.
Meditation and Stillness
Periods of guided and personal meditation provide an opportunity to become aware of the breath, body and present moment without the constant distractions of everyday life.
Reiki
Gentle Reiki sessions provide another opportunity for deep relaxation and inward attention. Within the retreat, Reiki is approached as a complementary spiritual and wellness practice rather than medical treatment.
Hypnotherapy
Private hypnotherapy can provide a deeply relaxed setting in which to explore habits, beliefs and emotional patterns that may be influencing your present experience.
Sessions are individually guided around the guest's intention and may focus on personal growth, relaxation, confidence, life transitions or inner exploration.
Sound & Vibration
Sound is one of the central elements of our work.
Through crystal bowls, didgeridoo and other acoustic instruments, guests are immersed in vibration and sustained sound. Rather than simply listening to music, the experience invites you to become quiet and notice sound through the entire body.
For many people, the combination of sound, silence and the desert environment creates a profound contrast to the sensory overload of everyday life.

Your Guides
The people holding a retreat matter enormously to us.
Thaliora Love is a Master Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master trained in Japanese and Hawaiian Reiki traditions, and an Essene Minister. Her work brings together contemplative practice, energy work, hypnotherapy and spiritual exploration in a gentle, individually focused approach.
Spency is a Grammy-nominated musician whose lifelong exploration of music, vibration and consciousness forms the foundation of the retreat's sound work. His spiritual studies include initiation into the Egyptian Mystery School tradition and study within the Andean Pachakuti Mesa Tradition.
Together, we approach this work not as something that is done to you, but as an environment in which you are given permission to become quiet enough to listen to yourself.

San Pedro and the Andean Tradition
There is another ancient tradition that has explored the relationship between human beings, nature, consciousness and ceremony for generations.
In the Andes, the San Pedro cactus—often known traditionally as Huachuma or Wachuma—has a long history of ceremonial use.
Within traditional contexts, San Pedro has not simply been understood as a substance to consume. Ceremony may involve intention, relationship with the natural world, prayer, music, silence, community and spiritual reflection.
Modern interest has increasingly turned toward psychedelic and plant-medicine experiences and their relationship with emotional wellbeing. However, it is important to distinguish promising scientific inquiry into psychedelic-assisted approaches generally from evidence about San Pedro specifically.
What we can speak about is the human experience.
People participating in ceremonial plant-medicine traditions have described experiences of emotional release, introspection, connection, compassion, altered perspective and a profound sense of stillness.
Why these experiences occur—and what they ultimately mean—is deeply individual.
For us, the more interesting question may not be:
“Can a plant fix my nervous system?”
but rather:
“What might I discover when I create enough space to listen deeply to my body, emotions, relationships, nature and myself?”
That is a very different conversation.

The Importance of Integration
A powerful experience is only the beginning.
Whether insight arises through meditation, hypnotherapy, Reiki, sound, ceremony or simply sitting silently beneath the desert sky, what happens afterward matters.
How does an insight become part of everyday life?
How do we respond differently when we return home?
What practices can we continue?
What have we learned about the environments, relationships and habits that bring us peace—or take us away from it?
This is why reflection and integration are important elements of our philosophy.

Stillness Is Not Emptiness
We often think we need to add something to ourselves in order to feel whole.
Another technique. Another answer. Another achievement.
Stillness offers another possibility.
Perhaps sometimes we need to temporarily remove the noise and discover what remains.
Stillness & Sensory is an intimate retreat experience created for people who feel called to slow down, reconnect with themselves and explore a different relationship with stillness, sensation, sound and inner awareness.
Among the rocks and silence of Joshua Tree, we invite you to step away from ordinary life for a little while.
To breathe.
To listen.
To feel.
And perhaps, simply, to remember what stillness feels like.
